Costs for the purchase of power from Appalachian Power Company have continued to increase due to fuel and other distribution costs increases. VTES purchases most of the power provided to our customers from Appalachian Power Company. Over the last year, material costs for transformers, conduit, wire and other electric service distribution materials have increased significantly as well. These costs are built into our rates resulting in the adjustments to your rates effective February 15th, 2023.
When was the last increase?
Until October 1, 2022, VTES had not had a rate increase since November 1, 2017. This most recent increase is due to the continued increases in costs for the purchase of electricity from Appalachian Power Company.
We use a third-party consultant who develops rates for many utilities in the country. They have worked with VTES to help develop our rates based on our costs.
